Cynthia Alexander Hitting the Seattle Music Scene

As I was going through my local coffee shop’s calendar of events I saw a name that I was very familiar with. Cynthia Alexander! I wouldn’t say that I am her number one fan or have been following her all these years but I knew of her music and have even sang along to a couple of her songs.  She is a big name in the indie music scene in the Philippines and I can’t believe I will be able to listen to her play right here in Seattle.

When she announced that she was leaving the Philippines to move to Seattle, there were a lot of tears shed from the Filipinos. She will be missed they said. It’s sad that she had to resort to moving out of the country just so that she can sell more of her albums. I hope and pray that she does, and make all of us Filipinos proud.

She will be playing at Starbucks on South Lake Union on March 28th at 5pm. I originally saw that she had a gig booked right next door from our place but as I checked their calendar, her name disappeared and is replaced by a teenager. Fine with me. I’m sure there will be more people going to watch her play at SLU anyway.

I hope I see I lot of you dear readers at the gig.

Seattle music scene, get ready for Cynthia Alexander.

West Seattle. You know I love you. (Part 1)

I am not going to be all mushy, sweet and go cuddly-bear on you my dear readers but I thought I’d tell you all why West Seattle (WS) is dear to me. My home away from home (My other home being Manila, since most of my family live there). I’ve lived in WS for almost 7 years now. My first and only home ever since I’ve moved to the States.

My husband and I are on our second apartment in WS and currently we’re very close to C&P Coffee. To those that haven’t visited C&P, you better start doing so since this is the best place for those where-do-we-go-it’s-raining-and-it’s-the-weekend days. You get to be warm and cozy with a cup of joe, while listening to some good live music. You probably have an idea about where I’m headed with this post. List of my favorite places in West Seattle. I’ll give you some highlights for now since I gotta finish this post before my little dude wakes up from his nap.

Favorite Bakery: Bakery Nouveau

Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant

There is not a week that goes by that I don’t get myself a Bakery Nouveau fix. From the guy who beat the French in French Pastry making, there’s no where else to go but here for some Twice Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant. Need a little something something to give your hunnylove? Bring home some macaroons in a heart shaped box. Not feeling sweet? Their pizza’s are amazing! My personal fave is their foccacia pizza and pork sandwhich with pickled onions.

Favorite Parks: Lincoln Park and Ercolini Park

It’s hard to just have one favorite park in WS since there are so much it offers. But for my husband and I, Lincoln Park and Ercolini Park tops the list. Lincoln Park has the heated salt water pool, wading pool for the wee ones, tons of space for cross country running, picnic areas, hiking trails, and you also have the best view of the Puget Sound. It’s one of the biggest parks in Seattle and I’m happy that it’s in WS.

I’m mentioning Ercolini Park because right now it’s the best place for my little one. Best place for toddlers I would say. I love how people leave/donate their toys there so that other kiddos can play with them. It’s also a good place for mommies to meet other mommies. My son isn’t a crawler or walker yet but I look forward to the day when he starts climbing the little gym area.

I have more favorites I’d like to post but I have to keep this short for now. In the meantime, come visit me, and we shall go to Bakery Nouveau and get some yummies, and then go to the park of your choice to let the kiddos play.

Back to Blogging?

How many times do I have to resuscitate this blog. I keep having to revive it from the dead. I go months and months and months of not blogging so obviously all my readers disappear. Back when I was in college, I used to blog every single day. Even 3 times a day. Now, that I am 30 with a baby, who knows when I get to blog that much anymore huh?

If you still haven’t caught up to what has happened with my pregnancy. Check it out here. You will get to see my little miracle baby over there.

I thought about completely killing this blog but realized that I do need to keep it. I have decided to start with some projects that I will be working on and thought this would be a good place to document it. Saying projects makes me feel like I am a real domesticated diva momma.

As for my little boy, he will be documented on the other blog. I will leave a link to that blog on the sidebar to the right in case some of you forget the URL.

As for you my readers. If you’re still out there. Thank you for reading this and keeping up with the Loca. For now, I will leave you with a photo of me and my lovely little man.

Desmond and Mama

It’s already 2012?!?!

How’d that happen?

2011 went by so fast I did not get a chance to even prepare myself for this next year. Although, it doesn’t feel any different, except that I have to start writing 2012 instead of 2011.

I guess it’s because there has been an ongoing change in my life that it doesn’t seem like it’s another year.

If I haven’t announced it yet, I guess now’s the time. I AM PREGNANT! I am now 4 months preggers! (17 weeks) It’s a shocker right? What with Nick’s new job and us having a baby in 2012. It seems like everything is new everyday. It doesn’t matter what year it is. What matters to me right now is that there’s a life growing inside me and my body is changing tremendously.

Sometimes I feel like a psycho, sometimes I feel like I could eat a cow. Actually, I’ve been craving for some good steak so yes, I could eat a cow right now.

I’ve also started a blog but with all the holiday craziness my last post was on Dec 5th. Not only that, I also have been tired most of the time so that’s another reason why I haven’t been blogging as much.

The good news is that I never had the morning sickness. Thank you Lord! I’ve just been tired a little headachey sometimes. Not so bad though. I just have to make sure that I don’t eat food that would trigger a migraine. Other than that. My baby is just growing every single day.

I’d like to talk more about this but I have to go. Hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas and New Years holiday.

God is a good God who listens to our prayers. I hope that this new year would be filled with so much blessings for you as it already has for me.

Another Published Work

I helped out a friend and did a shoot for the marketing campaign of his play, Suffering Inc. My friend and former co-worker is the director and writer of the play. So of course I have got to help a brother out and spread the word. If you haven’t seen the play, you should go get your tickets now before the run ends.

It’s been really fun doing creative shoots where I am able to use my ideas and even add more in post.

The great thing about shooting photos like these is that it gets published on web zines and even popular weekly newspapers here in Seattle.

One of them is the Stranger. They did a great review on the play and even included the photo I took with a credit.

Oh yeah! That makes me happy.

Don’t Tell Anyone

There’s something I learned about this whole trying-to-get-pregnant thing.

Never tell your friends that you’re trying! Actually, don’t tell anyone at all! Because if you do, everyone will ask you, “Are you pregnant yet?” And it has been happening for a while now. I don’t just get asked face to face but even on Facebook.  Even people that I didn’t tell that we were trying are asking me if I was pregnant yet. WHAT?!

This happened at church. Someone walked up to me (we’re not close) and asked me if I was pregnant yet. I said, “Who told you we were trying?” She says, “Oh so and so told me about it. We talk about these things you know.” UGH!!!! Mind you, this woman has had 2 kids already.

The thing is, if I was pregnant, did she think I’d tell her right away? I mean, this woman waited until her first trimester to announce she’s pregnant, back when she was pregnant with her kids. What makes her think I’m an exception? Shouldn’t she be more sensitive about these things?

Also, what makes her think I’d tell her if we are or not. We’re not close!

Just had to vent.

Nightmare’s: Fear Factory

I remember back when I was in grade school, it’d be around the time of Christmas vacation and the family and extended family would go to the Carnival. The Carnival was called, Payanig sa Pasig. Sadly, where they usually had the carnival is now a big strip mall.

I did had the best of memories at Payanig sa Pasig. One of them is of the haunted houses. My cousins and I, with the push of my uncle, would try and check out the haunted houses to see how brave we were. I was usually on the side of, “I don’t really need this in my life.” But with my very persuasive uncle we pretty much had no choice but to go through with it.

There was also this warehouse type haunted house where you get into this truck, the truck goes into the warehouse. All the lights are off and when they do turn on, you discover you’re in a cemetery. So what they’d do is that they’d have the zombies come out their caskets and the ground. They’d start walking over to the truck, thank God the truck was surrounded by a cage type thing so they couldn’t touch you. My cousins and I would be so scared but we kept on riding that truck every year.

What I didn’t know was how I looked when I got all scared. If someone took a photo of me then, and look at it now, I probably would be laughing so hard and I’d even post it here. But since I don’t have a photo of myself. I thought I’d entertain you guys with these. I don’t know how I found the photos but it was a very good find.

What’s up with all the guys using their women as shields?
